I often hear around forums and the HH community in general about alternative treatments used to treat excessive sweating. Now, I’m not an advocate for these types of treatments nor am I a critic, so in the upcoming weeks and months I’m going to be giving a number of them a go. This week I’m going to be giving Sage Tea (available caffeine free from Amazon.com) a try and will post my results here for you all to see.
Sage has been used for thousands of years both as a medicinal and culinary herb. Known to us as a culinary herb to be used when stuffing your chicken/turkey, the Ancient Egyptians used to use it to improve fertility. An Ancient Greek physician known as Dioscorides reported that the herb stopped wounds from bleeding and cleaned ulcers and sores. He also recommended that sage be used in warm water to cure a cough and sore throats. Herbalists also use the herb to treat such things as sprains, swelling, ulcers, and bleeding externally. It has also been used to treat rheumatism, excessive menstrual bleeding, and to dry up mother’s milk when nursing has stopped.
Sage (or Salvia in Latin, meaning to heal) has a long list of medicinal uses, but one you may not know about is in the fight against excessive sweat. Infused sage or sage tea is said to help calm an over excited nervous system, and is supposedly used to help treat people who are suffering from delerium of fevers or the nervous excitement that’s a result of brain and nervous diseases.
So, as opposed to targeting the glands that produce the sweat the sage seems to work on the nervous system, essentially calming down the source.
It sounds hopeful, and judging from the rave reviews about it on various forums it can’t hurt to give it a go. As you may know I regularly use Iontophoresis for the hands and feet, and antiperspirants for my underarms. I’m going to stop using my Ionto machine for a few days until I get back to normal, then start drinking the sage tea so I can better judge the results. I work from home at the moment so it’s a perfect time to give this a try. I’ll be posting a review up when I’ve got some solid proof either way.
If any of you have tried sage tea for excessive sweating, let me know in the comments below!
