To fight against hyperhidrosis, you WILL NEED an anti-perspirant, no matter what other treatments you’re using. Antiperspirants are considered to be the front line in your defence of excessive sweating. Unlike some of the more invasive and costly treatments available such as ETS, Iontophoresis, LSA, Botox, and prescription drugs, antiperspirants are affordable, non invasive, and very effective.
If you’re one of the lucky people who find complete relief from antiperspirants then good for you. However, like many others (including myself) antiperspirants may not be enough for your sweat hands, feet, and/or underarms. Many people react differently to different treatments, including surgery (the absolute last resort!). If you don’t find complete relief from any one treatment (which is very common indeed) then fear not, it’ time to try a combination of treatments. You should ALWAYS start with antiperspirants first however. After you’ve tried this approach it’s then time to try a combination of treatments.
After trying many different types of anti-perspirants in the past I’ve found that each one fits into a certain category. In descending order of strength they are:
There are also various other topical products that you can buy that help with excessive sweating. There are creams, wipes, lotions and sprays to choose from. Others that I recommend include Kiehl’s Superbly Efficient Antisperspirant and Deodorant Cream, which can be used in most areas associated with sweating plus groin, back of legs, chest, neckline, and even face. Another product that is very handy is Med e Tate Wipes by Dermatoctor. Perfect for using on the go, they provide immediate relief from sweat.
Be sure to click each antiperspirant category above to learn about each product and it’s pro’s and con’s, there’s a lot to choose from I know! The brain boggles as to how many products are available nowadays, but this is great for us excessive sweaters as it proves our condition is creating awareness in the industry, which is always a good thing in health terms, just look at Omega 3! Watch this space!!
